BREAKING: Hubballi Residents to Block Garbage Trucks – Here’s Why You Should Care
Hubballi residents, exasperated by the Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation‘s (HDMC) inaction regarding persistent garbage fires at the Karwar Road dumping yard, have vowed to block garbage trucks from entering the site on March 4th.
Nagaraj Gouri, a Congress leader and president of the Garbage Yard Removal Committee, addressed reporters on Saturday, expressing residents’ frustrations. He explained how continuous garbage fires have resulted in thick smoke blanketing nearby areas, causing severe health problems for residents within an 8km radius.
“The smoke from the burning garbage is causing serious health issues for residents,” Gouri stated. “People are suffering from respiratory infections, skin infections, and eye problems.”
Due to the perceived indifference of the HDMC, residents have chosen to take matters into their own hands by blocking garbage trucks from accessing the dumping yard. This protest aims to pressure the corporation into addressing the ongoing issue.
